Outside the window of the aircraft, white clouds are flying past one after another. A basin appears between two lofty mountain ridges. At the very bottom is a river that zigzags into the distance: the famous Yarlung Tsangpo! On the left are clusters of villages, the high peaks their backdrop. On the right are interconnecting yellow and green farmlands, which doubtlessly emit the strong fragrance of blossoming grain. It has certainly been a while. Eight years, last I counted. Back then, everything appeared much like a wasteland here, but on this visit, newly erected clumps of structures form villages everywhere the eye can see...
